Treatment
Treatment varies by wound or burn, depending on the degree and type. One must:

1) Maintain freedom from infection. 2) Absorption of excess discharge. 3) Maintain a moist wound environment. 4) Keep free of necrotic debris. 5) Increase circulation to area.



Dosage Forms
Topical dosages in the form of gels, creams, sprays and solutions in conjunction with various dressings bring relief to the patient. Compounded topical medication specific to the patient produces positive results.

Topical calcium channel blockers have shown efficacy in reducing scar formation and increased blood flow. Many cancer patients incur sores/wounds from radiation/chemotherapy treatment. Due to the nature of the illness they may not be able to tolerate oral medication. Topical medication is beneficial for the hospice patients that develop sores/ulcers and may not be able to swallow medication.

Pain control medication is also available in the form of: lollipops, troches, suppositories, gels and creams.
